Blog Assignment 8 (due January 14)

Hi Class,
Here is your assignment this week:  Compare and contrast 2 EHR companies.  Pick the 5 most important issues you would face in deciding between the 2. Each group will designate a person to post the 5 on the blog.  This assignment is worth 2 points.

The 5th person in each group will post on the blog.  This assignment is worth 2 points and is due January 14, 2012.
Thanks,
Dr. Frost

  1. The two EHR software companies I checked out were eConnect (what we use in the AHC) and Chirosuite EHR software. The five biggest things that I would look for in differences would be 1. Ease of use 2. Ability to Bill 3. Cost 4. Quality (does it crash, automatic updates?) 5. Customizable (not sure if thats a real word but the ability to Custom design the software for your individual clinic.
I liked Chirosuite for its ability to bill, cost and quality. I liked eConnect for its ease of use (seeing that I have used it for months) Cost and Customizing abilities. Overall, I think that if I was running a complex office or offices, Chirosuite is better suited for that. However, since I do know eConnect better i believe that this will be the choice that I would prefer if my goal is to have a basic office.

  2. Our group checked out this two companies:
    1)CHIRO TOUCH SOFTWARE
    2) eConnect
Here are the advantages of ChiroTouch:
    - all in one computer interface, bluetooth wireless link with other computers in the office;
    - ON/ACTB certified (official EHR certification)
    - Provides software applications for;
Patient notes, SOAP notes, ipad Interface, ROF, Scheduling and patient flow.
    - Patient automatic check in with fingerprint or code, automatic transfer to pt records new complaints upon check-in;
    - digital xray image screen with radiology software;
    - CT reminder (automatic program included that send email to patient to remember appts);
    - CT intake forms (web system that allows patient to update their information online for new or old patients)
    - personalized information for the software according to the doctor's preference
    PRICING NOT AVAILABLE ONLINE.
    Other info at http://www.chirotouch.com/
Seems a pretty good software that includes patient notes and education.

    2) eConnect
This is the EHR software at Palmer Clinics. It is of easy access and functionality for staff, doctors and students. It is 100% applicable for chiropractic and it can be customize according to doctor's preference
All of us are aware of how the software works, so no major explanations about the software are required.

Here are the things we would look in our EHR software:
    1. Accessibility - the software must be easy to use, with customizable applications and forms according to the Doctor's preference. This two softwares appears to have this potential.
    2. Cost - the prices were not available online, so we don't have an idea about average cost, although we know that ChiroTouch is known to be the most expensive EHR software available for chiropractors.
    3. Billing service - as we don't deal with billing service with the eConnect at Palmer Clinics, we are not sure about the app for eConnect, however, ChiroTouch has a complete full service for billing and according to most of the reviews online seems to be the best system available.
    4. Up to date technology - ChiroTouch is the most up to date software and it is know to have updates every 3 months and it is totally customizable.
    5. Connectivity - ChiroTouch have an outstanding connectivity ability with ultimate technology. It is really impressive and useful to speed up and link all computers and staff members in a chiropractic clinic, making the day-today in the office much easier for patients, staff and doctors.
Overall, our impression is that ChiroTouch is the best available EHR software at this moment for chiropractic clinics, but eConnect is a good start for palmer students because the transition from palmer clinics to private clinics would be much easier than a whole new system.

  3. Our group compared the companies Future Health eConnect and Chiropractic Advantage, and here are the five most important issues in our opinion;

Price: eConnect is actually free for the initial trial version, but if you really want to take advantage of its possibilities you will have to pay about $300 per application., and you can choose the applications you want. Chiropractic Advantage provides money back guarantee, we weren't able to find the price, but it includes the entire system.

Customer support: eConnect provides written and pre-recorded training, they also provide live training sessions and workshops, in addition to having a support center.
Chiropractic Advantage has unlimited online and phone support, free software updates, flexible training options and meaningful use assistance.

Storage capabilities: eConnect has a “Cloud system” to store your data for a designated price. In addition, you can chose to store the information at your specific location. Chiropractic Advantage does not operate with a cloud system so you have to store the information on your own system.

Meaningful use: eConnect is meaningful use compliant, but you have to buy the array of applications. Chiropractic Advantage provides certified EHR.

User friendliness: eConnect is very easy to use and user friendly. It also includes billing and scheduling software.Chiropractic Advantage provides scheduling, billing, SOAP notes, and reporting, and utilizes voice, touch screen, tablet or ipad data entry. Chiropractic Advantage also allows you to view DICOM images.

  4. Future Health eConnect versus FreeChiro Chiropractic Software

Price: eConnect has free basic software but you must pay for the affordable applications. FreeChiro is free with no annual fees but you can upgrade to the plus edition for 2 users for $19.99 per provider per month or the premium edition with unlimited users for $99.99 per provider per month.

Easy to use: eConnect is very user friendly since it is designed for chiropractors to use. Storage is on the Cloud. FreeChiro is also designed for chiropractors and has storage on the Cloud but there is no software that needs to be downloaded.

Customer support: eConnect has free training videos, online support, and a number to call to talk to experts. FreeChiro has training videos also webinars you can attend.

Billing capabilities: eConnect has the application you can purchase. FreeChiro comes with the abilities and also allows you to print superbills, enter payments, print receipts, schedule, CMS-1500 billing, and more.

Customizable: eConnect allows you to purchase whichever software and capabilities you want to include. FreeChiro allows you to rename or edit content with just a click.

  5. The 2 software programs we decided to compare were EHR and MacPractice. 1)Easy to use 2)Cost 3)Billing 4)EHR Certified by Govt 5)Accessability

    1) eConnect as we all have seen is a lengthy process, but does make it easy to streamline the data and from what the eConnect rep has told us, Palmer does not use nearly enough of the allowable applications. MacPractice is much more simpler to use and much less troublesome to maneuver through, but does not have the depth that eConnect has to offer.
    2) MacPractice is roughly $5000 up front cost with an optional annual support fee that includes the cost of all upgrades.
3)Both products are current and are accepted by all major insurance companies.
    4)Both are EHR certified.
5)eConnect only accessible from desktop / laptop. MacPractice is accessible from any PDA including iPads.

  6. The things most important to us were 1.cost 2.Ease of use 3.EHR certified by the government 4.Quality 5.Accessability. We chose to compare econnect and mychartsonline. Econnect is a free service that you only pay for the applications that you choose to add. Mycharts are $199 per month, $100 for the next two users, and no additional cost for 4 or more users. Mychartsonline are also accessible from anywhere where econnect is hardware loaded onto your office computer. Both products are EHR certified and accepted by insurance companies. Econnect you can store your information on site or in their system, where mychartsonline are an online app and they store all the information. Both companies include any upgrades and customer support in their fees.

  8. For this blog assignment, we decided to review two different EHR systems that are not used at Palmer. While researching company and software options, we found a ridiculous number of options and found some that seemed to fit all of our needs as medical professionals, and came across others that none of us felt would suffice in any practice. We decided to take a more in depth look at Chirotouch software and Chirosuite software. The 5 factors we used in our research were as follows: 1.) cost 2.) user-friendly (is software able to be customized, is it user friendly and versatile for busy days in practice, etc…) 3.) dependability (eConnect seems to update or crash at the most inopportune times…) 4.) accommodating (does the software or company that produces software stay up to date with changes in Medicare and other insurance options) and 5.) storage capability.

1.) Cost – Both of these software packages seemed to be on par with average costs of other high quality software providers. There were a lot of “free software” options out there, but these often seemed a little sketchy. No quality chiropractic software is going to be cheap, and with quality and quantity of software desired comes a rise in cost. Our group felt that it would be in the practitioners best interest to not be stingy with purchasing EHR software. In an ever changing scope of practice, a quality and up to date EHR system can go a long way in running a successful practice.
2.) User-friendly- Once again, both of these software packages seemed to be user friendly. Both offered options to customize your software to your practice, and seemed to be easy to use after some practice. Chirosuite was interesting because they have options in which you can purchase iPad software and connect your notes to an iPad and use the latest technology to speed up office visits and communication between staff while with patients.
3.) Dependability- this was the most difficult to research, as a lot of the dependability issues are talked about in user feedback. Generally, Chirosuite seemed to have very few complaints with updating, and the software working efficiently. Chirotouch seemed to have more complaints with the software apparently crashing from time to time, and needing to restart itself.
4.) Accommodation- Both software packages claimed to be as up to date as possible with Medicare and other insurance billing. Both also had options that you could add on to have a billing section included with the software. We were able to find more information about Chirosuite and some of the different software packages and features they offer to help and accommodate the many different scopes of practice within the chiropractic profession.
5.) Storage capability- both systems had an option to store patient information within a cloud, or on hard drive in the office. Storing within the a cloud obviously has many benefits, but at the same time it raised some concern amongst our group when it comes to protecting private patient information. More research (in our opinion) would be pertinent to ensure that these companies had measures in place to protect patient information.

These software suites both seemed to have there pros and cons. It was interesting to see the variety of products offered. There are a lot of options out there, and some of these options did not seem like they were very smart or safe (especially the free software).

  9. The two companies we choose to compare are eConnect and practice fusion.
    Cost
    Ease of use.
    File storage/backup.
    Customizability.
    Government certification.
Practice fusion is available for free online. While it is not a chiropractic specific program, you are able to completely customize your visit notes and quickly enter information. You can save "blank" notes to fill out in office and can input all information on an iPad with a stylist and it will all automatically transfer to the patient record. All records are stored 'on the cloud' online so all files are backed up. This program is a general health care program and so it is government certified to handle claims.
eConnect has a free basic version available online. It is made specifically for chiorpractic practice (although this version costs money) so you can simply click levels adjusted and customize exams performed regularly in the program. It is also government compliant. It also has the ability to store patient information online or with a hard drive backup in office.

  10. The two companies that were looked at were ACOM health and Chirotouch.

Criteria: 1) Ease of use 2)Cost 3) EHR certified 4) Billing 5) Customer support

    1) Both companies market themselves as easy an quick to use. They both use a lot of point and click things to make you get through notes quicker. Both also allow you to use an Ipad or tablet.

    2) Prices were not given for either companies online.

    3) Both companies are EHR certified.

    4) Both companies assist you with billing and scheduling. For Acom the billing does not come with the standard package. You must buy it as an addon.

    5) Acom has gotten bad reviews for their customer service. Most people had a hard time contacting them and often got a recording instead of talking to an actual person.

  11. 2 EHR I compared are eConnect and Platinum plus software

Price- eConnect's price varies depending on what application you use. Platinum plus software has a free trial for 14 days. Then one time $125 for setup and activation after that. But due to the affordable price, it shows the advertisement on the screen.
Feature- Both companies have appointment scheduler, billing system and EMR.
Support- eConnect has a free training video and an assistant by the phone. Platinum plus software offer a support and training (video learning center and searchable knowledge base) for $595 annual fee.
User friendliness- Both company look good. Platinum plus has 14 days trial, so you can see how it's like before you purchase.

From the criterions above, if you don't mind the advertisement on the screen, Platinum plus is the one to get from the aspect of the price. If you can afford and don't like the ads coming up on the screen, eConnect is the one.

  13. The two companies that were researched were Chirotouch and econnect by future health software.

Criteria: 1)ease of use 2)record keeping ability 3)cost 4)ehr stimulus certified 5)customer service

    1) Both companies said that their systems were very easy to use and would help make your practice more efficient.

2).Each company marketed themselves as having great software to keep records that were thorough but could be done in a timely fashion

    3) Cost is always an important factor. Both offered some sort of free use, but it is limeted in what you can do. Many people use both systems so that says that they are pretty affordable.

    4) Both systems are stimulus certified. Most systems are but I fould that some were not. 39,000 is alot of money and both systems are eligiable for that money.

    5) Customer service for both was rated to be very good. If something goes wrong you want to be able to talk to someone fast.

  14. 1. Security
    2. Scalability
    3. Portability
    4. Cost
    5. User friendly

The 2 companies our group reviewed were Eclipse and Chirotouch

    1) Eclipse has been around since 1985 and has been one of the most secure systems. Chirotouch was developed in 1999 and is also touted as being one of the more secure platforms for EHR. Both programs are fully HIPAA compliant.

2)Chirotouch was developed for the smaller chiropractic offices, due to this a user may run into some scalability issues when growing. Eclipse has enough scalability to cover a large multi-office practice with ease.

3)Portability in Eclipse is very easy, the program is made to talk between servers without much of a headache. Chirotouch is more a one server type of system, and a user may have a hard time setting up multi-office communications between the software.

    4) Eclipse is approximately $2000 for each individual license. Chirotouch costs were, on average, much higher than the Eclipse software, and it was not published online without giving practice information.

    5) Both programs have extensive customer service departments to help alleviate any user side issues. Chirotouch seems a bit more user friendly right out of the box since it has many applications designed directly for the chiropractor.

  15. The two companies that we compared are Econnect and Practice Fusion.

Our issues that we are comparing are cost, billing, storage/backup, certification, and ease of use.

Cost: Practice Fusion is available online and Econnect's basic version is free and they charge for a specific chiropractic version that charges for different apps.

Billing: Both systems have electronic billing systems that store CPT codes from previous patient visits and also carry a library of CPT codes for an easy way to find a code if you can't remember the code off hand for and easy referral.

Storage/Backup: Practice Fusion's software gives allows you to have file storage online via cloud technology and with Econnect you have the choice of either storing information online or through a hard drive of your own at your office.

Certification: Both of these programs are certified by the government to handle health care claims.

Ease of Use: Practice Fusion was designed with the help of doctors and nurses to make it more user friendly, also they offer free support and the software allows you to create your own specific templates to make your office run better. Econnect has some issues with double entry of data but they also offer many apps for scheduling and billing that can increase productivity.

  16. Group 17 Brandi, Cristine, Jill, Wendy

We chose two top software providers by information provided through their online website. Chirotouch and Chirosuite were the two largest. The following 5 criteria were looked at in servicing our individual needs.
    1) Cost
    2) User friendly
    3) Billing/documentation
    4) Customer service/user help availability
    5) EHR certified

    Chirotouch

Chirotouch has a user friendly website easy to follow and understand. This alone important and is an insight to their willingness to be helpful.

Software cost is not available online, they ask that you phone them directly for a detailed price on personalized software fitting your needs.

The software appears very user friendly, efficient and similar to that which we are trained on here at Palmer. Chirotouch ideal for smaller offices and is also Ipad compatible.

Accurate and detailed account ledgers, tracks outstanding claims and offers a full service billing company to do this for you, for an additional fee.

Unlimited customer service support available as well as online chat

    EHR certified

    ChiroSuite

ChiroSuite’s website is difficult to follow, and full of alot of fluff. Packed with information however, I found it confusing and hard to understand.

Cost is not available online here either. They ask that you phone for customized pricing

Easy, user friendly and customizable, complete webinar office training

Saves time and money with billing, filling/coding, ease w medicare billing

Customer support available with technical support and software updates

    EHR certified
